Subject: Argus E TLR as film re-spooler
Hello,
My grandfather gave me his 1939 model C2 in 1967 and I've had
a soft spot for Argus ever since.
Some folks may already know this... but the Model E TLR is one of
the few cameras that takes both 120 & 620 rollfilm. This makes it a
snap to re-spool 120 on to 620. Just load the camera with 120 and
wind off the roll, take it out and tape the loose tail end of the film
to the backing paper, (if you don't do this the film will snag on the
rollers going back -- I do this in the darkroom, but you could
obviously use a changing bag , or you might be able to do it in
subdued light and sacrifice a frame.) All you have to do then is put
in a 620 take up spool in and wind it through again. Result: a nice
tight roll of 620 film for your old shooters.
The early Univex TLR's and the Foldex will also do this trick.
There may be others too, but I think they must be rare.
Hope this is useful.
Good luck

I have one of the Argus E with the 828 modification kits installed. It
seems a little crude. The parts seem to slip around. Must have been a
joy to use.
